PROGRAM GUIDELINES
The Michael Chekhov Association offers teachers who are interested
in teaching the Michael Chekhov acting technique an opportunity
to study the elements of the Michael Chekhov technique so that they
may return to their classrooms with a greater grasp of the technique.
Through MICHA's International Workshops and Teacher's Workshops,
students have the opportunity to gain increased understanding of
the Chekhov Technique while focusing on how they will incorporate
it into their careers in theater and actor training.
To be awarded a Certificate of Completion
you must:
Attend a minimum of 2 Teacher Training Workshops and 3 International
Workshops.
Teachers who
wish to be awarded this certificate of completion may do so at
their own pace and with the guidance of any MICHA faculty member
present at a given workshop.
If you are a teacher and would like to attend one of MICHA's workshops and require a letter of invitation, email us your request. Please include your full name along with the name and address of your university. info@michaelchekhov.org
Some background about our Certificate Program
The certificate of completion is designed so that you cannot complete it in under 3 years. To be clear, we do not 'certify' teachers but offer a certificate of completion, meaning that everyone who completes the 5 workshops earns a certificate.
Our main concern with the 5 courses is that teacher participants have an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Chekhov's technique and to return to their classroom and incorporate what they have learned, to then return to MICHA continue to share and learn. We feel that time is an essential part of the process. Both time with MICHA and time away. Different people have approached this in many ways. At some workshops teacher participants offer demonstration classes, perform, create discussion groups, etc. etc. Others have collaborated outside the workshops creating panels at the ATHE conference, inviting one another to guest direct/perform etc. etc. In this way MICHA acts as a home base and a ground for collaboration and exploration. Our teacher participants teach and work in a variety of different areas and we work to support as diverse a population as we can. Some are scholars, others actors, directors, dancers... some do it all and so we are open to suggestions and alter the workshop structure from year to year depending on the needs and interests of both the participants and the faculty.
You can take as long as you like to finish the 5 workshops. (Many earn their certificate and continue to return) We also offer the June intensive and one day workshops throughout the year. Although these workshops do not count toward the certificate, they continue to support the work and provide an opportunity to touch in throughout the year as needed.
On the website under 'newsletter' you can read participant articles detailing past workshop. If you are interested in working with us, we would be happy to hear more about your area of interest and your curiosity in Chekhov's work. Feel free to contact us by email or telephone.
