MICHA incorporated in New York in March 1999 with Joanna Merlin, Ted Pugh and Lenard Petit serving as the initial directors. Shortly after it was granted 501-c3 status as an educational not-for-profit organization. Since then a rotating collective of teachers, performing and directing artists have gathered in the practical study of Michael Chekhov’s technique. Over the years we have offered a variety of workshops and teacher trainings, made an award winning short film and produced an annual festival celebrating the performance work of the Chekhov community. In 2008 our president, Joanna Merlin, was awarded the Solzhenitsyn Medal for Excellence in continuing the legacy of Michael Chekhov.
